FreeCell Easy Mode: Beginner's Guide

Strategy-based solitaire where almost every game is winnable

FreeCell is a unique solitaire game where all cards are dealt face-up from the start, and 99% of deals can be won with the right strategy.

What Makes FreeCell Special

Unlike most solitaire games, you can see every card at the start. This means FreeCell is almost entirely a game of skill and planning rather than luck. The four 'free cells' allow you to temporarily store cards, giving you incredible flexibility.

The Free Cells

The four free cells (top left) can each hold one card temporarily. Use them wisely — they're essential for maneuvering cards around the board. Think of them as extra storage spaces.

Building the Tableau

Cards in the main columns must be arranged in descending order, alternating red and black. You can move multiple cards at once, but only if you have enough free cells and empty columns available.

Building the Foundation

Move all cards to the four foundation piles (top right), one per suit, starting with Aces and building up to Kings. Double-click any card to automatically send it to the correct foundation pile.

FAQ

Is FreeCell always winnable?

Almost! Research shows 99.999% of FreeCell deals are solvable. If you're stuck, try the Undo button and think through your strategy again.

How many cards can I move at once?

It depends on your free cells and empty columns. With 4 free cells available and no empty columns, you can move 5 cards at once.

What's the best strategy?

Plan ahead! Since all cards are visible, you can work out your moves several steps in advance. Prioritize freeing up Aces and 2s for the foundation.
